Friends of the Hound Inc. need help in order to continue the success of our greyhound rescue and rehoming program. We are seeking volunteers for the following roles.
Events/Promotion Sub-Committee * booking & arranging participation in promotional events (at expos, shows, pet shops etc) *co-ordinating promo equipment, promo material & volunteers Program Support Officers (all areas) * provide assistance & support to Adoption & Foster Co-ordinators, where possible, eg. carry out home checks, transport greyhounds, help with fostering and adoption arrangements, promo events, fundraising opportunities, etc

Did you know that for less than $1 a day you can help to save a greyhound's life? Please consider donating $25 per month to rescue & rehome a gorgeous greyhound. These dogs need our help. In 2007 Friends of the Hound were successful recipients of a $2,500 grant from Voiceless - the fund for animals - for their Run For Your Life Greyhound Awareness Campaign. The funds from this grant went towards the printing and distribution of professional, glossy A3 posters that are aimed at educating members of the public about the plight of Greyhounds in Australia and promoting them as great pets. The posters are to be displayed at vet clinics, pet shops, animal shelters and various other participating venues. Friends of the Hound needs support from people willing to distribute these posters or display them in their local area. Please register your interest in helping this worthy cause by emailing.... Friends of the Hound Inc., being a not-for-profit organisation, rely solely on volunteers and fundraising activities and donations to carry out our rescuing & re-homing efforts. By becoming a member, and paying the small annual membership fee, you are providng help and support for our cause and ensuring a regular income. Members will receive a copy of our newsletter "Greyhound Goss" detailing Friends of the Hound's current achievements, activities, plans and future events, along with a complimentary bumper sticker & discounts on the purchase of our merchandise.
Friends of the Hound Inc. rely upon the 'foster carer system' for their program of rescuing and re-homing Greyhounds. A foster carer is someone who can provide a temporary home for a Greyhound until a permanent home is found. The period of foster care varies and can be as little or long as the person is prepared to offer. Some dogs are adopted out after only a week or two - others may remain in care for months until a suitable home is found, however we do understand that our foster carers have other commitments (work, family, travel) and changing circumstances in their lives. As well as giving the fostered Greyhound somewhere secure and stable to live, a foster carer's role is to provide the Greyhound with exposure to normal life experiences that a kennelled racing dog may not have experienced, along with adequate exercise, social conditioning, basic training and most important of all, patience, care and love. Friends of the Hound provide dog food where possible to the foster carer, along with worming, heartworm & flea treatments. Every foster greyhound is desexed, vaccinated and microchipped before being placed into the foster environment & is provided with collar, lead, muzzle and warm dog coat (in winter).
Greyhounds are not particularly demanding dogs - they are gentle, friendly, placid dogs that are extremely adaptable and appreciative of comfort. If you have a secure yard, regardless of how big, (as Greyhounds can be happy in small yards and courtyards) and a little free time to spend with a beautiful Greyhound to ensure it finds a suitable home as a pet, please contact us and give foster caring a go. It's a WIN - WIN - WIN situation. We win because by placing a greyhound into your home it allows us to rescue another dog and save another life; the dog wins because it is alive and well and adjusting to pampered pet life in your care; and, you - as the foster carer receive the benefit and joy of having a lovely canine companion without the ongoing responsibility and committment of owning the dog permanently, along with the satisfaction of helping to save a life and contribute to the rehoming process of one of these gorgeous greyhounds.

Every Greyhound adopted from the Friends of the Hound, arrives at their new home with a collar, lead, warm dog coat and wire muzzle. You can help with the costs involved in supplying these goods to every one of our adopted dogs, by purchasing an Adoption Pack .

Making a Will gives you the reassurance of knowing that you can decide where your property will go, who will benefit from your legacy, and what arrangements will be made after your death. It also means that if you want to leave some money to Friends of the Hound Inc. to care for greyhounds in need, you can do so without any arguments about ‘what you would have wanted’. A legacy to Friends of the Hound Inc. is a very effective way to ensure that we will be able to continue caring for our greyhounds.
