Annie
Annie Carter sadly lost her long battle with cancer on 9 May 2011, passing away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Her kind heart, generous spirit and love of animals, most recently her beloved Greyhound, Angel (refer to Adoption Tails page), are a wonderful legacy which will be remembered.
Rest in peace.

Nyima
Jan 2000 - Oct 2010
Not a greyhound... but a big, kind hearted boy, who enjoyed showing the Greyhounds who shared his home how to be pets... sneaking onto beds and couches, eating bones, encouraging humans to part with treats, playing with toys, and generally loving life. Nyima was a calm, beautiful boy who lost a very short battle with cancer. He was his owner's first rescued dog, and inspired the adoption of several more over his life.
Rest In Peace, Big Man.

Angel
2001 - 2010
Darling Angel touched us all.
This gorgeous ol' girl was rescued by Friends of the Hound at age 9 - having spent the latter part of her life in quite a neglected state. Despite this she was the most loving, happy, affectionate girl. In foster care she quickly adapted to life indoors, warmth, regular meals & comfort - sleeping every night in the kids' room. Unfortunately she had infected gums from rotten teeth & underwent surgery to have most of her teeth removed & a painful recovery & ongoing problems.
Sadly, only a few months after being rehomed with a wonderful couple who provided her with the perfect pampered life, our beautiful Angel succumbed to bone cancer &, of course, nobody could bear for her to go through any further pain & misery. We had hoped Angel might have a few years knowing love, affection, pleasure & comfort...
I guess we need to be thankful that she at least had those few months.

Zada
May 2001 - Dec 2009
A tribute to a special dog.
The gorgeous hound who started all this.... the 'lucky one' - saved in 2002 from the pound, Zada was the inspiration for Friends of the Hound.
It was this sweet, loving dog that encouraged us to devote our time, energy and effort to rescuing and rehoming Greyhounds. She is the reason that so many other lovely Greyhounds have had the chance to live.
Zada passed away suddenly on 14/12/2009, causing much shock &
sadness - she was 8 years old. We will miss our gorgeous girl - but her
legacy will continue - with many more adorable dogs, like Zada, getting the chance to live out their lives as much-adored pets & companions.

Katie
Adopted Dec 2005-Sept 2009
"It has been hard for the family to deal with her passing. She has been part of the family since day 1. Since we got her into our car at Tweed Heads and drove her all the way home. That only felt like yesterday.
We miss her gentleness, her soulful eyes, her silky soft coat, her lovely way of putting her paws on us to ask for more cuddles. She loved her tummy rubs. She loved her human company more than anything in the world. We missed her funny way of "complaining" when we left her out in the yard for too long."
Katie was tragically hit by a car while her owners were away overseas.
"Thank you for bringing her into our lives. She was and will always be our special, beautiful girl."

Frankie
"Anubis"
April 1996-April 2009
Darling Frankie came into our program at 9 years of age along with his son Mickey (now Crikey).
Frankie became a ”permanent foster” with Kelly in Toowoomba and , as a vet nurse, she was able to spend time and money trying to sort out his weight gain issues. His tests always came back fine and despite best efforts, never really put on any weight and was always a bony old boy. Frankie suddenly developed an aggressive form of osteosarcoma and was put to sleep kindly in April, aged 13 years. Thank you to everyone who took part in his life, cared for him, gave him a chance and lots of cuddles! It was a risk to take in such an old, potentially unwell dog but he was such a character and deserved a retirement as much as any dog.
We’ll miss you Frankie. x

India
2002-2008
A princess - pampered and precious - who touched every one she met with her fun-loving zest, cheeky affection and aristocratic air. She thought she was special.... and she was. Adopted in 2004 and much adored by her human mum, to whom she was devoted, India's life was taken far too soon by a devastating and unusual illness. She will be greatly missed by her companions and we shall miss seeing this gorgeous girl at our promo events.
She will live on forever in our hearts. |

Wags
"Honcho Wags"
alias 'The Big Niff'
March 1997-November 2008
A very special boy who introduced us to the wonderful world of greyhounds. He loved a walk and a good sniff, adored a roast chook or grated cheese, and lived for his "pack" of Pam, Farmer John and the other critters. He had a fabulous life as a racing dog, then a city hound, and in his latter years he had a "tree change" and lived on a 5,000 acre farm with lots of interesting bunny smells and many good friends and comfy couches. It was very hard to say goodbye and he is missed dearly, but we have so many special memories of the time he spent with us and we will always remember him with much love.
RIP "Big Niff" x |
