We asked Shaunagh & John to share with us their Greyhound Success Story.
Please tell us about your furry familyβ¦
We are owned by three big, black, beautiful rescued greyhounds. Black Betty (The Velvet Queen), Lockie (Daddy Long Legs) and Squirt (Squirty!!!), collectively known as the Black Pack. We adopted them four years ago from Friends of the Hound and our lives have never been the same.
Black Betty is a super affectionate, feisty pocket rocket. Lockie is a gentle giant, a gentleman in public, but at home he is a real showstopper with his tap dancing and twirling around the yard each afternoon. Squirt is a seven year old puppy who entertains us daily with his one hound stand up comedy routines.

Whatβs the best thing about having Greyhounds?
Their calm, gentle nature and how adaptable they are…I love the fact that we can do so much with our hounds— bushwalking, swimming, taking them out for coffee or lunch at a cafe. We even take them on holiday where they relax with us on the beach! I also love their companionship, and they are just plain gorgeous!
What would you say to someone thinking about adopting a Greyhound?
Greyhounds are the dog world’s best kept secret!! Do your research…attend a FOTH promotional stall and chat with hound owners. Be prepared to adopt a hound as a member of the family, and be aware that you will not be able to stop at one..or two…or maybe even three!
The last thing about your hounds that made you smile?
When we are out and about, I love the ability our hounds have to make complete strangers smile. People will often say patting our hounds has made their day…that puts a smile on my dial!!
Anything else youβd like to share about your Greyhounds or Friends of the Hound?
The best part about adopting a hound from FOTH is that they come with a community of hound crazy people! We have met some amazing people and made some great friends through FOTH.
